James Yan is an Australian Film Composer and Conductor currently living in London. He has completed scores for over 30 short films and documentaries, receiving numerous nominations for best score, at the Sydney Film School (SFS) and Melbourne Indie film festivals. He received the Best Composer award at the 22nd SFS film festival and the AFTRS academic prize for music scoring for the screen.
A graduate of the ROyal COllege of Music's prestigious Composition for Screen course, he has also contributed music to a variety of U.K. and Australian Production Music companies including Universal Production Music, 2nd Foundation Music, Score Addiction, BMG, Audio Wallpaper and Arrow Production music. His music has been featured on the Big Ten Network, Eurosport, PBS, ESPN and the NFL's 'All Access' among others.
James is developing expertise in applying both traditional and modern scoring techniques to screen productions. His distinctive voice is heard in his intuitive blending of orchestral colors with more contemporary guitar, drum and electronic elements.
In addition to his work as a composer, he has also worked as orchestrator on a variety of films, video games and production music Albums, for clients including Netflix, Audiomachine and TiMi Studios.
Outside of music, James has a passion for traveling and experiencing the cultures of others 'off the beaten track'. An avid photographer, he enjoys capturing nature with a special interest in black and white photography. He currently attends Christ Central Redhill, wherein his Christian faith plays a central role in his life.
